Moving is so integral to our health. Unfortunately, today's lifestyle is so much about sitting, whether it be at work, school or traveling between places. Modern conveniences also limit activity including tv and garage remotes, vacuum cleaners that move on their own, washers and dryers.
So we need to plan active time each day. Plan to get up to talk to people at work, versus sending texts or emails, drink lots of water (which is good for you anyway) so you will need to make frequent trips to the restroom and plan for some fun active time at the beginning of each day or after work or school. It is always best to do the exercise that you enjoy as you are likely to keep at it. Some of us prefer to exercise with others, so it is good to plan to meet up with friends or sign up for classes. That will help you to keep on tract and the social benefit will have its own rewards. Walking is wonderful as it is easy to do many places. Keep walking shoes, sun hat, rainwear etc in your car so that you can be spontaneous and get a walk in when you have a few minutes between other activities. Watching your kids sports games it entirely possible from the periphery so you get your exercise in at the same time. Plan to park further away and take the stairs when possible. When the weather is really bad, make a plan so you don't lose momentum. Big box hardware stores are good( there is not food around to tempt you) or buy an inexpensive piece of equipment like a mini stepper that does not are up much room. This is also good for those who have trouble being on their feet, as you can do this sitting down. DVDs are good to and chairdancing ones are available for those who have hip, knee or foot pain. Swimming is wonderful for everyone is you have access to a pool or the ocean. Together with walking and hiking, ocean swimming is a big favorite of mine. Even if you are not a goodbye swimming water walking is fabulous for those who are carrying extra weight or have pain issues.
